Source for thin wall brass tubing

I need to find a source for some 1.25" od brass tubing with a wall thickness of .012"

It's for a part on a k&t mill and I can't seem to find this from any of my usual sources. The thinnest I can find the 1.25" is .040" thick.

I thought I had some aluminum tubing that would work, but its a little too thick as well(.035"). A shaft runs through the tubing, so it needs to be that thin.

machining splines on a shaft

I have a Rotex vertical head that has the threads on the spindle nose about worn out. It has the double taper Y type collets. I am thinking of either machining a ER20 collet on it (will be very close for the threads if I use the mini nut with M24 X 1.0P threads) or making a new shaft with ER20. I could use a PCH-ER20-1000S-10L from Craftsman Industries Inc. Which has the ER20 nose and a 1" shaft 10" long which is just the length I need. My only problem would be the splines on the end. I looked in the Machinery handbook but they start off with a .75 shaft. I have a .625 shaft with 6 straight sided splines. The splines are .150 wide and have a root dia. of .530. I don't know how to figure out what cutter I would need for this. I could do it with 2 slitting saws and mill out the middle but I was hoping to find out what the real cutter would be for this with the radius for the minor dia. Any other info needed let me know. Thanks for the help.

Horse bit manufacturing - how do they do it?

So i've been missing in action for a while. Got a few more automation and PLC projects under my belt since my lasts posts. Great thanks to the automation section for the help.

I have also been focusing on quality of life and started to jump horses. Looking at some of the equipment, this company makes EXCEPTIONAL quality metal bits. What is the optimal setup for doing this on a large scale?

I am a volunteer with the National Air & Space Education Institute, NASEI. We a 501C3 nonprofit that teaches high school students aviation subjects such as aircraft maintenance, engineering and flight training. NASEI started in Frankfort Ky in 2006. Classroom teacher and new pilot Tim Smith started using aviation as a practical way to teach math and science. A wreck of an airplane was acquired and the nonprofit was started. We just moved into a 30,000 SQ.FT. hanger at Bowman Field in Louisville Ky where we are setting up classrooms, labs and an aircraft building and maintenance shop. I am working to get a real nice shop set up. We need donations of shop equipment, hand tools, Shelves, material, tool boxes classroom and office furniture and anything of value that can help us get started. So far we have some hand tools, some welding equipment, a nice Saylor Beall air compressor, a B model Johnson Band Saw and a Baldor pedestal grinder. Any items donated will be used or sold to fund our daily operations. Donations are tax deductible. You can contact myself through this website or email Tim Smith at tim@iae.aero or 502-320-9490. The website is THE INSTITUTE FOR AEROSPACE EDUCATION | Building Futures in Aerospace

Thanks, Danny Downs

Arbor Press accessories tools

So I bought a Framco 3-1/2 arbor press with a ratcheting handle. Other than pressing arbors I find most jobs press difficult and time consuming because I don't have the right fixture to hold some thing that needs pressing or the right punch to press with. I usually just cob something together which usually fights me thru the process anyway.

The most recent press job was removing 1/4" shaft brass gears from potentiometers held on with 3/32" roll pins. Drilling a new 3/32" hole thru a new 1/4" potentiometer shaft and pressing in a new 3/32" roll pin. For this job I used a small bench arbor press.

1st question is what do you like to have at your disposal for general press jobs. Pictures of common fixture or other accessory

"Truing" chuck jaws. Your opinions

So I've been seeing Youtube videos showing people truing chuck jaws with a grinder. They all show that the jaws are bellmouthed by chucking up a pin and showing it wobble, or by showing clearance at the top of the jaws. It's my opinion that this method does not indicate bellmouthing. My thought is that a chuck that shows this indication probably has wear on the jaw raceways, and that the jaws are lifting the same way many mill vices lift. I don't see anybody suggesting grinding the jaws of their mill vise to make them parallel under load. If I suspected bellmouthing of the jaws, I would take them out and put them on my granite plate to check if the face is perpendicular to the raceway. It just seems to me that grinding the jaws without really knowing where the problem lies is a bad approach. Kind of like grinding the ways of a lathe to correct for twist when the lathe hasn't been leveled. What is your opinion?

Gear motor for rotory table for milling

Hello,
I am getting my feet wet this summer with milling when I can finally hook up my j head bridgeport. I have a few projects that a rotory table will be useful. i think it would be nice to have a power setup for one to get a nice and even final cut. At the local surplus store there are two gear reduced variable drive 0-400 lab stir motors. I was thinking one of these might work well.
According to the manufacturers website it has a 1/9 hp motor, gear drive and produces 196 oz-in of torque.

Will this motor work for a rotory table in the 12 - 16 inch size? Second is it not even nessassary to have a setup like that?
